Jenny, our secretary is still getting address and contact detail changes coming in, and as a result is still trying to bring our address list up to date. We still have several email addresses that are either no longer current, or unattended, so these people cannot receive the new address list when it comes out.

With this in mind, we ask that if you have had any changes in contact, let Jenny know (87tpt6667@gmail.com) and if you know of anyone else who may not have access to this blog, or any computers, could you contact them and urge that they update their contact addresses through you by the end of next week 8/4/2022.

One such case is that of our good friend Dongers Hodgson. Reports have been coming in recently that his Email has been hacked and that he is unobtainable, but I note on good old reliable Facebook, he is in his second week in Greenslopes hospital right now suffering from a pretty bad fall in which he fractured his sternum, tore a few shoulder ligaments and scarred his leg. He won’t be able to drive for a couple of months.

Merv’s funeral is being held Thursday 24 March 2022 in WA at 1045 WA. Time. (1245 EST or 1345 for you people suffering Daylight Robbery time on the east coast!)

By not including any attachments to emails without prior arrangements (phone call) we should be able to minimise the threat of hacking.

Perhaps we jumped the gun slightly re the address updates by not expecting such prompt replies, but our flat out Secretary is busy setting up a more secure 87 Tpt Email address to simplify your access to the Association.

At the moment she is waiting for her grand daughter to show her how to do it and as soon as that happens we will publish the new contact point address on this blog.

Your personal online security could be at risk and we are taking these steps to help eradicate this possibility.

Those who have promptly answered via the comments on the blog with your address details, please note that these details have been received, noted and actioned before I deleted your comments.

Please DO NOT include any personal addresses and contact details on the blog as the blog is accessible to the general public and creates a security risk because of this fact.

As soon as Jenny has the new address all squared away I will publish it on the blog, and from then on that will be the point of contact. Also I would ask that any Emails sent to this new address do not contain attachments as they will not be opened, (unless prior arrangements have been put in place)

Our over-worked and under-paid secretary is attempting to update our address list.

If you have moved, changed phone numbers or changed email addresses, now is the time to let Jenny Pigeon know. The same goes if you know someone who has moved, changed phone numbers or Email.

Sadly as age creeps up on us all, our personal and health situations can change quite rapidly and because of this, in some cases, personal lines of communication may not be still available, or suitable, and should this be the case, a NOK or carers contact notation could be of some value.

Some members are disconnecting landlines and relying on mobiles and if this is the case we would like to know so that unused numbers can be eliminated. (I am lucky, we have the absolutely brilliant NBN [looking for a sarcasm emoji] and now as a result, I have a reliable landline phone and internet service on an average of three days a week, providing it doesn’t rain or we don’t have a power outage.)

The sooner Jenny has the relevant information, the sooner the modified address list can come out.

A bit about this blog.

For security reasons, this blog up has been set up so that only an administrator can publish on it. This has been done to eliminate frivolous, irrelevant and completely unnecessary posts from the general public world wide. (Over the past number of years that the blog has been operating it has averaged about 10 or more hits per day from spammers, robots and other general mental giants).

So, with this in mind please note that the only way to have something published on this blog is to send me the message you wish posted (strictly limited to news affecting 87 personnel) by Email. Comments to any existing post that you are welcome to make are automatically added once you as a member of 87 have been initially identified.

Also bear in mind that I am loathe to publish 2nd hand information without some sort of verification from the person involved or a close family member or carer. A forwarded email would suffice in this situation.

I have recently been informed that Merv Pickering passed away recently, It appears that Merv has been in Palliative care for a period of time, fighting Cancer. I am sure that all members of 87 pass on their deepest sympathy to all family members.

JOHN SPRUCE

Over the years I have always kept in touch with John and Heather Spruce as on my return from Vietnam, Shirley and I shared a lot of time both socially and workwise with the Spruces, John was the MC at our wedding and photographer also.

The reason for posting this blog is to inform the 87 family of recent events regarding the Spruce family.

John’s general health has declined a lot and he suffers from dementia. He currently requires 24 hr. supervision and his son’s are waiting for a vacancy in a secure nursing home.

The other sad part to this story is, John’s wife, Heather passed away Saturday 8^th Jan 2022 after many years of poor health and mental stress, When Troy called me today To inform of his mother passing, I asked how his father was handling the loss of his mother, to be told; “the same way a robot would take it”. This statement left me speechless, but it tells a lot about John’s condition

It is that time of year once again, when we each and all celebrate Christmas in the manner that we all choose; to remember old friends and enjoy the company and friendship of those friends and family that are with us.

It is also almost time to say goodbye to 2021 and welcome in 2022, with the fervent wishes that the upcoming year surpasses this past one, with all its ups and downs. With this in mind, Patsy and I would like to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and a much improved and happy New Year

Margaret Ralph reported that recently on the 14th of this month a group of Victorian members got together to enjoy a jovial day out. She managed to scrape these “Wanted” posters off the door of the Post Office and forwarded them to us.

Wendy Dennis, beloved mother of Jodi and wife of Bloo, slipped away at approx 0430 this morning, Monday 4, 2021.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to you both on your loss of a lovely woman, wife and mother.
