” I would like to let you know that Ted passed away on 11th March 2015, after a short illness from Cancer.

His funeral will be at Pinneroo on Thursday 19th March at 10.30am in East Chapel.

Ted Hall

Sadly Ted Hall passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Our thoughts are with Shirley and family.

Any further news regarding funeral arrangements will be posted as they become available.

From the Thomsons

Marie & I would like to pass on our best wishes to Ted & Shirley , Blue & Helen and Graeme & Jenny. It was good to read Ted still has his sense of humour regardless of the problems he is facing. From what Jenny wrote sounds like Blue can still get up to some of his old tricks. We can only hope they can see their illnesses through, God willing.
Regards to all
Marie & Jim Thomson

From Ken Sceney

We caught up with Ted and Shirl at the end of last year whilst in Perth. Ted was his usual happy go lucky self as if nothing was as at all wrong. So to hear his health has declined so suddenly is extremely sad. Our heartfelt wishes go out to both Ted and Shirl in these difficult times.
God speed.
Ken &Marg Sceney.
PS Sorry to hear also about Blue Hickey’s problems. Cheers mate.

Ted & Shirley; Blue Hickey.
Both Shirley and my thoughts are with you, as I am sure are those of all of the Association at this time. It’s not hard to shed a tear with news like this when you “grew up” with people!
God bless!

Called in to the hospital to see Ted yesterday. My admiration for this bloke grows continually. He is still cracking jokes and stirring every one up.
He is, and always will be a major part of 87 Transport.

Hope you are feeling better Bluey, Hope to see you at our 50th re-union next year

A little bit of housework

As some of you may well be aware, those who “follow” the blog anyway, when a new “post” appears the followers are notified by an automated Email.
When a “comment” or “reply” is added there is no automated Email, so to overcome this shortfall from now on I will be “cutting and pasting” all comments and reposting them as separate posts.
As it stands now, there are some of us who only visit the blog after receiving the Email and as a result many of the comments are not seen by the general membership, and this is a sorry situation.
For security reasons (you would be surprised at the number of “spam attacks” we receive per day!) I have organised the Blog as a closed situation, so if anyone wants to [post anything (87 related) send it to my Email address and I will post it for you.
See next posts for currently received “comments” on recent posts.

Ever so slightly more cheerful note from Jenny Morcom

In Jenny’s words; “I felt the group needs to hear a little cheery news.”
Graham is going along slowly and still having treatment. He now has a ‘port’ in his chest which makes it so much easier for the nurses to administer the chemotheraphy drugs. He had a six week break over Christmas and New Year and the latest scan showed no change in the tumour. So the treatment is holding it. He hasn’t lost his sense of humour, gives the nurses lots of cheek and still enjoys the odd ‘punt’ at the local TAB and a flutter on the pokie machines when he is up to it. We spent a couple of days in Echuca recently and he travelled very well.

A COUPLE OF ITEMS OF BAD NEWS

TED HALL
I have just been talking to Shirley Hall re the welfare of Ted and she reports that this attack from which Ted is suffering has been one of fairly rapid and sudden onset.
In October last year a melanoma was noticed and duly cut from Ted’s neck. This seemed like a rather straight forward course of action and by mid December Ted had started on a programme of radiation treatment. This carried on for a while until in Mid January Ted complained of shaking hands and a general weakening of the body, so went off to see the Doctor. Just within 4 months of the first discovery of the melanoma they found a tumour had formed on the brain, a situation that the doctors considered serious enough to proclaim that he probabbly wouldn’t see Christmas.
Recently Ted’s health has rapidly deteriorated to the stage where he could not expect to continue without outside help in the form of regualr hydration treatments.
Ted’s family, fully understanding of Ted’s wishes, have bravely made the decision that there are to be no more hydration treatments and are preparing for the worst possibly within a week or two at the outside.
I am sure that the heartfelt thoughts of all 87 members and their families go out to Ted and Shirley at this time of need.

secondly BLUE HICKEY

While on the subject of Cancer it seems that it never rains but it pours.
Whilst returning to Brisbane from our last reunion in August, Blue Hickey noticed a lump forming on his jaw so on return went to see the Doc as one would. What they found was a melanoma, secondary to the one he had removed from his head 4½ years previously.
Following this discovery a number of scans, biopsies etc. followed and during this concentrated search they found a massive number of tumours in his left lung, a few more tumours around the heart and a large 5.3cm one in his right lung.
Blue is now battling along under radiology treatments, having had 5 already and ten more to go in an effort to buy time.
Blue has been warned by his specialist that Christmas this year is not really something he can count on and as can be reasonably expected, he is a bit down at this very moment, but taking what is served up, on a day by day basis.
I am sure that any communications from some of us would not go astray.

Christmas Greeting posts

I have been lumping all the Christmas Greeting posts I have received for the blog into the one, but it appears that when I edit a post no one receives any Email notification. This post is simply a reminder to have a quick peek at the blog every now and then during this festive season to check up if any later editing has occurred.
This should put the minds at rest of those who have sent greetings previously and are wondering what has happened to them. My apologies for any angst so caused.
Keep watching in the near future for some more photos that Ken Sceney has recently unearthed!
