Rob Hanisch

Recently, I had a call from Des Ralph who states that last Thursday he was out playing golf with Rob and the world was all good.

He got a phone call from Rob on the Friday saying that he (Rob) wouldn’t be playing next week.

Sunday Rob was operated on for Bowel and Liver cancer.

A large amount of the lower intestine was removed.

By all reports Rob’s condition is much better than previously predicted and apparently all is looking as well as can be expected under the conditions.

We all wish you a speedy recovery Rob and a return to the weekly game of golf. (You may have to alter your swing slightly Des tells me.)

Demise of 87 Troop, once again.

I went to a Corps function at 7 CSSB the other day and was informed by a Lieutenant from 26 Squadron that on Friday 17th November of this year, 87 Transport Troop was disbanded. I am still waiting an Email from said officer with the details but from what I can gather the disbandment was apparently through a lack of manning capabilities. The past few months the unit was under the command of a Sgt.

The last 87 was nothing like the 87 we remember, no tippers,  Macks and Mogs GS.

The following video gives an idea of the Units capabilities.

Note from John Neenan

To all my 87 comrades and their ladies,

Thank you for your wishes for my return to health.  They paid off, for I am back to my normal dissipated self as if nothing had happened.

Having been brain dead all my life, and my heart stopped (for I know not how long) I guess I was fully dead for that while.  I can report that I saw no tunnel with a light in the distance.

My love to all the girls.

Cheers for now.

My very proud, Sunray

General update to hand…mainly Qld.

Ted Baulch. As we all know, Ted suffered a stroke a while ago and has been slowly recovering over the past few months. At this moment he has the use of legs and hands, takes the rubbish out, does the wiping up etc., so is obviously improving physically. Still hasn’t recovered full speech yet and understandably becomes a bit frustrated when he can’t communicate as he would wish. Visitors and callers are welcome, but not in large groups please. Dot is bearing up pretty well.

Jim Thomson. Last seen a couple of months ago and is bearing up pretty well considering his situation. Marie is also bearing up reasonably well, although if either of their legs fell off they wouldn’t say anything.

John John Neenan is a typical Officer. Can’t even get ‘karking it’ right. Went to the hospital for some routine checks and collapses in a heap right outside the Emergency department door. As a result CPR and the crash cart was on hand in seconds. After 13 days in hospital  looking for a reason for the shut down, and he is out and about, bright as a button with only two broken ribs to show for it all.

Blue Hickey. Despite being advised that he may not see Christmas 2015, a couple of years ago, he reports that the cancer is still in remission and he is enjoying life to the fullest. Just come back from a 7 day cruise through the Pacific.

Bloo Dennis is in hospital in Brisbane with kidney stones. (apparently)

Ken Purdie was looking good the last I saw of him recently, so good that Joy was taking some time off and heading south on an embroidery junket for a week or so.

Patsy and I are still in relatively good health, alive and kicking.

Although not 87, my mate Paul Clements had a heart attack just after Anzac Day and has since had a stent put in place. Must be good now as he and Marlene are off on holidays today.

That just about sums up the local news, if anyone has anything else to report, let me know and I will add it.
